About Virginia Alumni
The Virginia Region Alumni Association of Phi Theta Kappa was chartered in 1996, as one of the first regional alumni associations of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. Since 1996, Virginia Alumni members have supported the Virginia Region of Phi Theta Kappa by providing scholarships to Virginia Region campus chapters for various educational and fellowship events, as well as donating funds to Virginia Region candidates for International offices and supporting their candidacy at International Conventions. Virginia Alumni members have served as volunteers at Regional events, developed and conducted workshops for Leadership conferences to train incoming chapter officers, and developed activities for Virginia Regional events. The Virginia Alumni also sponsor a Senior College Fair each year at the Virginia Regional Convention.

Friday evening, the Alumni hosted an "Advisor's Reception" in the Hospitality Suite. The reception was well received with 16 of the 17 advisors attending. We enjoyed conversing bout how the Alumni can assist with chapter endeavors. Refreshments were served, and literature was distributed, including alumni applications and a chapter resources booklet, describing some of the ways that alumni can interact with campus chapters. We also provided goody bags (including VRAAPTK pens, pads of paper, stress balls, candy, and bookmarks designed by Debbie Dale, VRAAPTK President-elect.
Saturday afternoon, we conducted a workshop for the entire conference entitled, “Empowering Your Chapter to Succeed!” It began and concluded with a skit (including our execs, other attending alumni, and International’s very own Kerry Cutler!) Mary Matthews-Worsley, Debbie Dale, and Joanne Helmick conducted the presentation that included a Power Point presentation. Audience interaction was high. At the conclusion, there was a prize for the first correct answer regarding the workshop and the winner received an alumni tote bag. Everyone received handouts and a VRAAPTK pen at the door as they departed. We received many compliments and good positive feedback from attendees.
In addition, we provided a $35.00 scholarship to each chapter in attendance, allowing each chapter to send one student to this conferenc at no cost - a valuable resource to chapters at the beginning of the fall semester!
Laurel Rothenberger, alumni advisor, had this to say at the conclusion of the conference:
“It was indeed a pleasure to work with the VA
Region to provide an Advisor Social and workshop for the Leadership
Conference. And again, Thank You to Kerry Cutler for attending and
participating with the VA Region Alumni in our endeavors!"
This conference afforded the Virginia Region Alumni Association
a rewarding opportunity to help achieve our goals and objectives, and to uphold
the standards and vision of Phi Theta Kappa.
